Pedro Estevan ist 1951 in Sax (Alicante) geboren. Er studierte Percussion am Konservatorium Superior de Musica in Madrid und spezialisierte sich auf zeitgenössische Musik.
Er war begeisterter Teil in vielen Jazzgruppen und auf einigen Theaterbühnen. Zusammen mit Maria Villa und Suso Saiz gründete er Gruppen wie Orquesta de las nubes, Ranfonia und Panku.
Seit 1968 ist Pedro Estevan Mitglied von Hespèrion XXI und Le Concert des Nations. Er kombiniert alle musikalischen Auftritte mit dem Lehrerberuf in der ESMUC (Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunia).
Pandero (Framedrum)
Of Mesopotamian origin, this instrument is mentioned in the Bible (Genesis and Exodus), and appears in mural paintings on Ancient Egyptian tombs. The shape of this instrument and the materials that are used in its construction are basically the same since many centuries ago; it is still played, especially in the Maghreb countries.
Pandereta (Tambourine)
Smaller than the pandero and with jingles. The first appearance of a small frame drum with jingles attached to its frame is found on the bass-relief of a Roman sarcophagus.
Darbuka
Of Persian origin, all the instruments of this family have a goblet shape. They are made of pottery, wood or metal and have a single skin that covers the widest opening.
Tambor (Drum)
Drums of different sizes and materials can be found all over the world. For this concert, we will use an originally Berber instrument, from the South of Morocco. The name of this drum is «Ganga» and it is played in all kinds of festivities –weddings, the end of Ramadan– together with shawms and trumpets.
Pandero (Frame drum)
Ursprünglich stammt dieses Instrument aus Mesopotamien. Es wurde schon in der Bibel (Genesis und Exodus) erwähnt und erscheint auf Wandgemälden in antiken ägyptischen Grabstätten. Die Form und die Materialien, die benutzt werden um ein Pandero zu bauen, haben sich seit Jahrhunderten kaum verändert.

Kleiner als das Pandero und mit Schellen. Das erste Zeugnis einer Tamborin ist in eine Seitenwand eines Römergrabs eingemeisselt.
Darbulka
Die Darbulka ist ein aus dem persischen Raum stammendes Instrument. Alle Instrumente aus dieser Familie haben ein verschlungenes Muster. Sie sind aus Holz und/oder Metall.
Tambor (Trommel)
Trommeln unterscheiden sich in Grössen und Materialien. Sie sind auf der ganzen Welt verbreitet. Für dieses Konzert wird eine Ganga verwendet, das ist ein traditionelles Instrument aus Südmarokko.
