Aikaterini Papadopoulou, Greece

 

Aikaterini Papadopoulou is one of the most respected singers of Greek folk music. Born in Athens, she joined the choir at the age of eight. In the course of her training, she took singing lessons in Byzantine music and folk singing, and studied traditional Greek dance. At the age of 13, she started music lessons on the oud. Aikaterini Papadopoulou has featured on a broad range of audio recordings and has worked in a various different schools and conservatories as an oud teacher. Among other roles, she now teaches Greek folk music at the Conservatory of Athens. She is involved in the Mare Nostrum concert as a guest singer.
